Langarth Garden Village, Truro

Project aims/ background:

CEC were commissioned to provide ecological services for the outline planning application for this major multi-use development in Cornwall. Outline planning was achieved in 2021, and CEC are now working with the client to provide ecological advice for the subsequent Reserved Matters Applications to help deliver the scheme on the ground.

What CEC did/ delivered:

CEC designed, co-ordinated and completed bat, badger, bird, dormouse and reptile surveys for the scheme. We worked with the design team to determine appropriate mitigation and enhancement measures, undertook BNG calculations and prepared an ecological baseline report and Ecological chapter for the Environmental Statement.

We also undertook a Building with Nature design assessment for the scheme, and this award has subsequently been granted, as has outline planning permission.

We are currently working with Arcadis and the design team on the first Reserved Matters Applications following the outline permission, carrying out updated surveys as needed, preparing more detailed documentation required for each application, including BNG conformity statement and providing ecological input to the Landscape and Ecological Management Plan.

Outcome for client:

Outline planning permission achieved.

Building with Nature Design award granted.

This garden village scheme has been, and is being designed with the landscape and green infrastructure in mind, to create a pleasant and healthy place for people to live and work, and incorporating space for nature.
