Community (score 28.9): Since incorporation in 1991, we have gifted over £2 million of unrestricted funds to our parent company, Cornwall Wildlife Trust. These funds support nature recovery in Cornwall and enable people to enjoy the environment they live in. We want Cornwall to thrive; wherever possible, we use local suppliers and small businesses, and we track local supplier spend.
Workers (score 31.5): CEC employs a team of 16 ecologists, two landscape architects and three admin staff. We actively support working and flexibility around family and caring responsibilities, with 13 of our 21 staff working part-time. We continually work to improve our employee offer, and professional development is a key priority.
Environment (score 49.9): Sustainability shapes the services we provide, the partnerships we build, and the way we operate as a business. We support clients in achieving better outcomes for biodiversity and continually seek innovative approaches that deliver measurable benefits for nature. In 2024/25, we surveyed 4,725HA of land for habitat management purposes – that’s the equivalent of 6,618 football pitches!
Governance (score 15.7): CEC has amended its corporate governing documents to legally commit to delivering the aims of BCorp: people, planet and profit. Our fantastic CEC Board has been carefully curated to ensure CEC leads on sustainable development in Cornwall.
Customers (score 3.3): CEC helps clients avoid, minimise and mitigate impacts on biodiversity. We work with clients and on projects where we know we can influence positively. We ensure we are ambassadors and influencers for the environment, and support community groups seeking to enhance their local environment.
