Ecology

Our in-depth understanding of the planning and regulatory framework enables us to help clients successfully navigate this complex area, and our team of qualified ecologists are on hand to keep your project moving

Landscape

CEC’s team of enthusiastic, experienced and dedicated landscape architects deliver sustainable, practical and lasting design solutions. With a range of assessment and visualisation services we provide a professional service covering all your requirements.

Nutrient Neutrality

Cornwall is one of many areas now affected by nutrient neutrality concerns. CEC can deliver Phosphate Impact Assessments which are suitable for planning submission. These use the Cornwall phosphate calculator and consider the impact on sensitive ecological receptors.

Contaminated Land

Contaminated Land is a term used to describe land containing substances which are potentially hazardous to human health or the environment. The natural geology and past industrial land uses of Cornwall mean it has a particular need for contaminated land assessments, which are often needed to accompany your planning application.

ECOW – Ecological Clerk of Works

An Ecological Clerk of Works (ECOW) provides a supervisory service on construction sites; where there are ecological risks, we have provided ECOW teams to major projects across the South West.

Protected Species Surveys

Many species, such as bats, barn owls, otters, badgers, dormouse, reptiles and birds are protected under law, and therefore developers need to carry out surveys to see which species are on a site and develop a plan to protect them.

CEC provided the construction phase ecological elements of the £300m Carland Cross to Chiverton Cross duelling. We were really impressed with the experience of the ecologists on the project, including large teams of Ecological Clerks of Works. CEC also helped us deliver various ecological enhancements like mammal passes and a bat house to help mitigate for the impacts of the road scheme and we found their expertise and flexibility on a scheme of this size invaluable.

“This was a complex project, carefully managed by CEC to ensure that the various surveys were undertaken on schedule, and that outputs and reports were completed in good time to meet project milestones. CEC’s pro-active approach helped the project team to ensure that ecological requirements were incorporated into the scheme design from the start. We are delighted that the project achieved the Building with Nature Design award, and that outline permission has been granted. CEC are still an integral part of the project team, as LGV progresses through Reserve Matters Applications, supporting the client by ensuring surveys and ecological conditions are discharged to allow works on site to progress without delay.”
